Custom Organ, English Sound, English Spec - Look No further!
The English organ has a very special sound of its own that is loved and appreciated throughout the world. Since 1970, Makin Organs Ltd has based its business on reproducing this sound for the benefit of countless churches.
Makin specialises in the production of totally bespoke instruments in the Westmorland Custom series of organs and has taken the realism of a pipeless instrument to a new level with the sound and touch of an English pipe organ.
We use the best in sampled technology with every note of ever stop being a separate sample or recording. This is a big difference between Makin and the competition who may only use 4 or 5 samples for each individual stop rather than 61. Since Sampling is so much better and far more realistic, we do not use any mathematical modelling techniques where sounds approximating to organ pipes are generated by complex computer algorithm which can never deliver the reaslism of an actual pipe being recorded. Indeed simple physics proves that this is an intractable problem.
Our customers have said that Makin is now really in competition with pipe organ builders and not other electronic organ manufacturers due to the level of sound realism and flexibility from this advanced technology. Makin also produces four standard models of organ, the Westmorland Classic, the Westmorland Village, the Westmorland Jubilee and the Westmorland Sapphire which are designed for people who want to buy a quality off the shelf instrument at an excellent price. Makin is the sole UK importer of the Johannus range of instruments with models from two to four manuals in size.
From the first contact we work closely with customers to make sure that the right size of instrument is installed at the right price. Of course organists are renowned to be like carthorses in that ‘they always want another stop’, but the key of organ design is to build a size of instrument suitable for parish needs and not to get carried away. In some instances it is possible for the purchase of a church organ to be VAT free.
After an instrument has been chosen, our installation team work closely with architects and other officials to ensure that the installation meets and indeed exceeds both desire and expectation. There are many things to consider from the location of the console through to the design, location and installation of speakers and their enclosures.
